Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy describes how Worty (“we”, “us”, “our”) processes personal data when you use the Worty Android app on Google Play and related pages on www.worty.app.

Worty is an educational German learning app: translation lookup, a personal word list, lessons and grammar, practice reminders, optional accounts with sync, product analytics, crash reporting, rewarded ads in the free version, and optional Worty Pro subscriptions. We do not sell personal data and we do not use saved vocabulary for advertising profiling.

2. What data we process

  • On-device data. Saved words, translations, learning progress, lesson/grammar unlocks, and quiz settings stored locally.
  • Search and translation queries. Words/phrases may be sent to third-party translation and dictionary services (e.g. MyMemory, Wiktionary). Do not enter passwords, health data, or other sensitive information into search.
  • Account data. If you sign in: email, auth tokens, and (for Google Sign-In) basic profile data Google shares. Used for sign-in and vocabulary sync via Supabase (EU).
  • Analytics. Usage events and (when signed in) user id / email via PostHog. Session replay may run with text inputs and images masked.
  • Crash diagnostics. Stack traces and device/app metadata via Firebase Crashlytics.
  • Rewarded ads (free version). Google AdMob may process Advertising ID, IP address, device/app identifiers, and ad events to serve and measure rewarded videos (extra translations or unlocks). Worty Pro subscribers do not see these ads. You can reset/opt out of ads personalization in Android / Google settings.
  • Purchases. Google Play processes payment. We and RevenueCat receive limited subscription metadata (product, status, purchase token, app user id). We do not receive full card numbers.

3. Why we use the data

  • provide translation, dictionary, lessons, and practice features;
  • create and maintain accounts and sync vocabulary;
  • provide Worty Pro after a Play purchase;
  • show rewarded ads in the free version;
  • analyze usage and improve the app;
  • keep the Service secure and fix crashes;
  • meet legal and app-store requirements.

Legal bases under GDPR include contract (Art. 6(1)(b)), legitimate interests for analytics/crash and operating a free ad-supported version (Art. 6(1)(f)), and consent for optional notifications/overlay/lock-screen quiz (Art. 6(1)(a)). Google may rely on its own bases for advertising personalization.

4. Who we share data with

  • MyMemory / Wiktionary — search query content;
  • Supabase — authentication and sync (EU);
  • PostHog — product analytics and masked session replay;
  • Firebase Crashlytics — crash logs;
  • Google AdMob — rewarded ads;
  • Google Play and RevenueCat — distribution and subscriptions.

Some Google, PostHog, and RevenueCat processing may occur outside the EEA with appropriate safeguards (e.g. Standard Contractual Clauses).

5. Retention

Local data remains until you delete it or uninstall. Account and synced data remain while the account is active; after deletion, server personal data is deleted or anonymized within about 30 days unless law requires longer retention. Purchase records may be kept as required for tax and consumer law. Analytics/crash retention follows PostHog and Firebase defaults.

6. Children and younger users

Worty is intended for users aged 13 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal data from children under 13. The free version contains rewarded ads. If you believe a child under 13 provided data, contact wortylife@gmail.com.

7. Your rights

Depending on applicable law (including GDPR), you may access, correct, delete, restrict, or object to certain processing, and lodge a complaint with a supervisory authority (in Estonia: Data Protection Inspectorate / Andmekaitse Inspektsioon).

Account deletion: in-app where available, account deletion page, or email wortylife@gmail.com. Cancelling Worty Pro is done in Google Play and is separate from account deletion.

8. Security

We use reasonable measures including HTTPS encryption in transit and restricted backend access. Absolute security does not exist.

9. Changes

We may update this Policy. The current version is published on this page with a new last-updated date. Material changes may also appear in the app update description.
